The all new V82 from Liberty is a great example of a new ski done right. At 82 mm underfoot, the skis don't scream "all-mountain" like a wider ski would, but it really does excel in all conditions and terrain. Thanks to the shape, construction, and profile the 2019 Liberty V82 performs much better than you'd expect, and is more versatile than pretty much any other 80+/- mm waist ski. The waist width may be a deterrent for someone looking for a one-ski quiver, but you have to ask yourself if you are really skiing fresh and soft snow all the time, or if that's just something that you want to do all the time. For most skiers on the planet, the terrain and conditions lend themselves more to an 80/85 waist width. Although we'd like to be in bottomless blower powder all day, that's just not going to happen for 99% of us. As such, the V82 finds a nice niche to fill. Liberty uses mostly traditional camber, with only the tip (or 10%) of the ski being rockered. As a result, the profile of the ski mainly leans toward front-side performance. They call it "Hammer Rocker" because, I guess, you're hammering down the slopes? Anyway, the majority of the ski is cambered, so the on-trail performance and edge grip are sublime. The VMT technology in the construction ensures stiffness and lightness by placing vertical metal stringers along the whole length of the ski.
